Mr. R.B. Sreekumar
Mr. R.B. Sreekumar born on 12th February, 1947 in Trivandrum (Kerala) is a Lawyer holds L.L.M in Criminology. Also, First Rank Holder in Master of Arts and having 2 other Master degrees in English literature and Gandhian Thought. Sreekumar is a Retired IPS Officer, (IPS-Gujarat cadre, 1971-batch).Speaks 5 Indian languages. He (a) Served as SP, DIG and ADGP/DGP in Gujarat police. (b) Served as Deputy Director and Joint Director in Central IB for 13 years in IB Head Quarters, New Delhi and Served as Commandant Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Kerala. Sreekumar achieved: The V.Gangadharan Smarka Trust Award for Best Police Officer among Keralities, Award of Excellence-2008 by American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) USA and Canada, Mother Teresa Memorial National Award for Social Justice. "in recognition of uprightness in public administration" by Harmony Foundation in Mumbai and "Karmadheeran" Award by Calicut Secular Society (Kozhikode Mathethara Samajam) in May 2009 for championing secularism.
R.B. Sreekumar became famous since 2002 for deposition of extensive evidence to judicial bodies, uncovering the diabolic role of communal forces in Gujarat, actively aided by the Gujarat State Govt. headed by Shri. Narendra Modi, in anti minority genocide. His evidence formed the substantial component of litigations by riot victims. His truthful reports resulted in the postponement of Gujarat Assembly elections in 2002 by the Central Election Commission. The Modi Government denied him promotion to the rank of Director General of Police in February 2005 and charge sheeted him on false grounds, for dismissing him from service. However, Sreekumar could secure justice from the Hon. Gujarat High Court which ordered his promotion with retrospective effect. His charge sheet was also declared illegal by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Ahmadabad. He retired from service on 28 February 2007.
Humanity works: He boldly came out against the forces of violence and fundamentalism and refused to be cowed down or silenced by the forces in power. Sreekumar strengthened the hands of justice and friends of communal amity by giving evidence against those who were involved in the rape and pillage of minority community in Gujarat. His courageous stand against the program in Gujarat saw him risk his life to uphold the values of secularism enshrined in the Constitution of India. At present he is engaged in assisting the riot affected persons ad helping the witness of major carnage cases to present proper evidence.
